Colourful, many-sided and inexhaustible Karelian culture… Our history preserves all the variety of mysteries, popular believes and folk traditions of Karelian people. “Karelian Chamber” restaurant revives the connection between the centuries and generations by invitation our guests to celebrate national holidays with us, where delicious food and folk programme will help you to plunge into past and get the full feel of nicety and peculiarities of Karelian land.

January

6th of January – Christmas Eve. We are glad to suggest you celebration with a festive meal, folk group appearance, sweet treating and of course, traditional Christmas dish – “Sochivo”

7th of January – Christmas Day. You’ll enjoy the folk group appearance and get a chance to know the future: fortune-telling, predictions collecting, special buns with surprises.

19th of January – The Epiphany (Baptism of our Lord). The main event of this day is water consecration ritual (blessing of water), according to believes this water can “purify” your heart and soul. You will find the holy water on every table in our restaurant.

February

15th of February – Candlemas (Presentation of Christ in the Temple) It is usual to feast the candles at this day. Warm candle light and folk singing will give you the fine feeling of comfort and cosiness.

24th of February – “ Vlas’ev Day” (local folk holiday) We’ll meet this day with blinis, cakes, and special folk group appearance with songs and dances.

March

From 3rd to 9th of March – Pancake Week. Traditionally that was the period of farewell with winter and meeting the spring. During this week you’ll find blinis with many different fillings in the menu. And of course, special folk programme!

14th of March – “ Evdokija Vesnovka’s Day” (local folk feast) It is believed that Evdokija is the keeper of the key from the first (spring) waters. We meet spring in “Karelian Chamber” with traditional folk songs and tasty treating.

April

7th of April – Feast of Annunciation (Lady Day). “Karelian Chamber” is waiting for you to celebrate this holiday together with treating, round dancing and singing.

27th of April - The Easter (holiday of holidays). Our guests will find traditional eggs on each table and special festive dishes in the menu.

May

16th of May – “Timofej and Mavra” (local folk holiday). Usually, at this day people eat fresh vitaminous soup made with nettle (stchi). We invite you to our restaurant to follow this nice local tradition.

22nd of May – “Nicolaj Chudotvorec Day”. Nicolaj is the defender and protector of Russian people. On this day you’ll try traditional local herbal liqueurs and hear local kantele music.

June

15th of June – Feast of the Holy Trinity. Pentecost. Local proverb says “ Feast of the Holy Trinity without a birch tree like Christmas without new-year tree”. Big holiday in “ Karelian Chamber” with folk singing and dancing, small presents for our guests.

26th of June – “ Akulina Grechishnica”. Traditionally people cook porridges at this holiday. Come to our restaurant to eat tasty porridge and enjoy folk group appearance.

July

7th of July – Midsummer Day. St John Baptist’s Day. People celebrated this holiday with swimming in the rivers and lakes, jumping through the bonfire, round dancing. In “ Karelian Chamber” you’ll hear the legend of this holiday and have fun with our folk group.

12th of July – “ Petrov Day”, “Petrovki” is the fun-fair day, sun holiday, top of the summer. Real fun-fair and party in “Karelian Chamber” is waiting for you.

August

2nd of August – Elijah’s Day. For this day traditionally bake loafs and buns from the new crop. You can celebrate it in our restaurant with folk group appearance and fresh bakery.

19th of August – Feast of Transfiguration. Savior of the Apple Feast Day. Eat fresh apples and enjoy special folk group programme in “Karelian Chamber”

28th of August – Assumption. (Feast of the Dormition of the Theotocos) One of the most important agricultural holiday. Since this day people start to make a stock of dough products. Special programme in “Karelian Chamber”- runic songs and pickles.

September

11th of September – “Ivan Suhoj Day”- turnip holiday. Strict fast day. Specially for you in our restaurant fast menu and folk group appearance.

21st of September – Nativity of the Most Holy Theotocos. Traditionally at this holiday parents-in-law invite their children and treat them with special feast dishes. We invite you to celebrate this holiday in our restaurant with special folk programme and try tasty “ pie for son-in-law”.

23rd of September – “Rjabinnik”, September equinox. Special folk group appearance and small “averter” gift from “Karelian Chamber” are waiting for you.

October

14th of October – Holy Protection (Feast of the Protection). This is the first meeting of winter. Folk group programme and special tasty treat for women.

31st of October – “Luke Day”- “ground doesn’t feed, water does”. Usually, at this day people eat famous Karelian fish soup. We invite you to our restaurant to follow this nice local tradition.

November

14th of November – “Kuz’minki”- “chicken day”. For a dinner in “Karelian Chamber” you’ll get specially cooked chicken and home-made chicken noodles.

28th of November – Advent, Christmas fast. Special fast menu during all fast period.

December

19th of February – Nicholas fete. (Nicolas is one of the most popular minor saints commemorated in the Eastern and Western churches). This is global guest holiday. Welcome to our hospitable Chamber, where folk group will meet you with songs and dancing and every Nicolas will be given with a special gift from the restaurant.
